February 7, 2001 - It's a game development party, and you're all invited. Interplay has confirmed yesterday's news that the company is working on Matrix games, to be helmed by Shiny. Better yet, it looks like we're all (consoles, that is) part of the fun. The deal, according to Interplay, is to create "interactive entertainment projects, encompassing current and future interactive gaming platforms, based on upcoming sequels to Warner Bros.' Pictures blockbuster film, 'The Matrix.' The agreement with Warner Bros. Consumer Products encompasses current and future interactive gaming platforms." Sounds good to us. But how's development going? We had a few quick words with Dave Perry, Mr. big-type Shiny lead guy, about working on the Matrix games. As mentioned yesterday, the Wachowski brothers are taking a large part in the production of the game, something fans of gaming and movies should feel happy about. "This is not a licensing deal, it's a collaboration," said Perry about development on the title. "We have complete and utter access to the making of the movie. We have total access to everything. You can go ahead and guess what you want as to what that entails, but this is not a little game. It's huge. I haven't been this titillated or involved in a game since Earthworm Jim. In fact, I'm the lead designer on the project.
And what about the tradition of horrible games made from great movies and cartoons? "We're going to give this the best shot ever," said Perry. You better. There are a million mini-Neos out there hoping that you'll fulfill they're post-apocalyptic dreams
